3 Secrets to Developing Healthy Life Habits

3 Simple Secrets to Developing Healthy Life Habits

We all want to be healthy and happy and live forever, right? But knowing which of the millions of healthy life habits are right for our specific body can take some experimentation.

Do I eat meat or not eat meat? High carb or low carb? Cardio or strength training?

Today I’d like to share with you some simple secrets to choosing the habits that are right for you.

3 Secrets to Developing Healthy Life Habits

Healthy Life Habits Secret #1

There are so many “gurus” out there telling you completely opposite information it’s really hard to know who to believe.

The first secret is to figure out what works for you.

To do this you must define your goal i.e. I’d like to lose 5 pounds this month.

Then you must identify the habits, that you can actually do, to help you achieve that goal.

Are you a big meat eater? Then going vegan for the month probably isn’t going to work long term for you.

Do you have daily foot pain? Then walking 5 miles a day isn’t going to work either.

Think about the small habits that you can actually do that will lead to weight loss (or whatever your goal is).

Healthy Life Habits Secret #2

OK so you’ve identified your habits, but now you must track your habits daily.

One of the biggest keys to losing weight is tracking what you actually put in your mouth. This can be done with just a simple notebook or it can be done with apps such as My Fitness Pal.

I’ve found that when you have to write stuff down, you are less likely to put things in your mouth.

There are also simple ways to create habit trackers in a bullet journal or on your phone. Just make sure that you are tracking these habits daily.

Bonus secret: This tracking is not to show you how badly you’re doing and make you beat your self up mentally. This is just for data so you can see if you’ve chosen the right habits for yourself. And if not, just switch out the habit the next week.

Healthy Life Habits Secret #3

This last secret seems obvious, but you’d be surprised how many people set unrealistic goals and then get defeated and give up when they can’t meet them.

The biggest one is saying I’ll lose 3lbs a week. This may happen in the beginning when you make a food change, but this is typically water weight. Losing 3lbs a week is not sustainable, or healthy in my opinion, especially for women in mid life.

Another mistake I see often is that people are not realistic about their time. They say they will exercise an hour a day, but they work 50-60 hours a week and have a family and other responsibilities that take up their time.

Really examine your schedule and start slow…add 10-15 each week until you reach the amount of time that works for you.

So now that we know the secrets to developing healthy life habits, are you ready to conquer all your goals? LOL
